Monet's at the Cottage

Monet’s, located at the Commandant’s Cottage within the grounds of the James Fletcher Hospital, provides an enchanted and relaxed setting for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other functions as well as the everyday functioning of its charming restaurant. The historic building, although located in the Newcastle CBD, is surrounded by quiet gardens and a courtyard, and is only a short walk from Newcastle beach and the Foreshore.

Monet’s restaurant is open from 9am to 2pm weekdays for a delicious variety of meals, and until 3pm for coffee. Offering a menu of contemporary Australian cuisine, the restaurant provides rarely found value for money with an assortment of daily special including a two course lunch for $14.50.

Monet’s offers open air dining in the courtyard, a perfect venue for the sunny days and experiences a cool sea breeze all year round. Alternatively, one may dine within one of the historic Commandant’s Cottage dining rooms capable of seating up to twenty people each.  Available for special events during week nights or weekends, Monet’s can be booked for functions, see below (Catering and Functions).

The Cottage hosts a special evening of fine dining once per month, for The Diner’s Indulgence, a fine dining club that fosters community awareness and support for the programs Monet’s offers to those with a mental health disability. While Diner’s Indulgence events are by invitation only, membership forms for the Diner’s Indulgence are available by contacting either Jennifer or Peter on 4924 6776, via e-mail monets@hunterjoblink.com.au or by speaking to them directly when visiting Monet’s.

Catering and Functions

 Monet’s can either host functions and seminars at the cottage or provide off-site catering for your event.  We aim to provide catering that is flexible to the needs of your function and our menu selection for on-site functions includes a variety of finger food, starters, main courses and desserts.  Having the choice of a two or three course meal, we have included the option to select two different choices for each course so that your guests are served alternately. While our menu options are diverse we are delighted to cater to your needs and are capable of meeting special dietary requirements.  

For off-site catering we can provide delicious hot and cold finger food platters including gourmet sandwiches, fruits and cheeses and Turkish-bread melts. To ensure we make your Monet’s experience as smooth as possible we would appreciate it if you would let us know your menu selection and number of guests one week prior to your function.

Driving Directions

1. Enter the James Fletcher Hospital from Watt St.
2. Pay parking fee of $4.
3. Take the left road after the entrance and follow it past the boomgate, and past the large round building.
4. Park in the carpark behind the round building, or on the grassed area in front of the cottage.
5. Monet's is located in the Commandant's Cottage (Building 10), at the rear corner of the hospital.
